Chiang Mai Food Guide: Savor The Flavors Of Northern Thailand

Chiang Mai Food Guide: Savor The Flavors Of Northern Thailand

My love for Thai food comes from my Thai mother, and I’ve always felt that food is at the heart of Thai culture. In Thailand, you are never far from a delicious meal. Even in the middle of nowhere, roadside food stalls serve some of the most flavorful dishes you can find. And if there’s one place that food lovers should not miss, it’s the northern region of Thailand, with its unique culinary delights.

What to Expect in This Food Guide

This guide is crafted by me, Siri—a half-Thai who grew up surrounded by the many flavors that make Thai cuisine so special. While Thailand is famous for its Pad Thai, there is so much more to discover! This guide features my favorite places and dishes in Chiang Mai that offer a genuine Thai dining experience. Forget the fancy interiors; here, you’ll find simple yet authentic eateries serving mouth-watering food. And of course, since Chiang Mai is known for its coffee scene, I’ve included some amazing coffee shops as well!

Favorite Areas for Food

  • Nimman: A modern area filled with trendy coffee shops, nice bars, and a variety of Western restaurants.
  • Sitathip: My favorite part of Chiang Mai, where you’ll find cozy cafes and authentic Thai “restaurants” with a delicious menu. (A hidden gem slowly gaining popularity.)
  • Jed Yod: A vibrant area with diverse food options and cool coffee places.
  • Outskirts of Old Town: Especially the North and West Gates, perfect for street food exploration.
